Fire Extinguisher Refilling in Delhi NCR: Cost, Frequency and Process

Updated: November 2026 2 min readBy the Vinsafe fire safety team

In short: When should you refill a fire extinguisher, how much does it cost in Delhi NCR, and what should a proper refilling service include?

An extinguisher that is empty, under-pressured or has caked powder is worse than no extinguisher at all, because people will trust it in an emergency. Refilling is one of the most important and most neglected parts of fire safety.

When does an extinguisher need refilling?

Immediately after any use, even a short discharge

When the pressure gauge needle leaves the green zone

When the seal or safety pin is broken

When the refill cycle recommended by the manufacturer or IS 2190 is due

When the powder has caked or the cylinder shows damage during maintenance

Indicative refilling costs in Delhi NCR

Refilling rates depend on agent and capacity. As an indicative guide:

  • ABC powder, 2 to 9 kg: roughly Rs. 250 to Rs. 900 per unit
  • CO2, 2 to 4.5 kg: roughly Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,200 per unit
  • Clean agent: higher, depending on agent and size

Hydraulic pressure testing, new valves, hoses or gauges are charged separately when needed.

What a proper refilling service includes

  • Pickup and replacement units so your premises are never unprotected
  • Emptying and inspection of the cylinder inside and out
  • Fresh agent of the correct specification (never mixed old powder)
  • Re-pressurisation and leak testing
  • New seal, safety pin and a dated service tag
  • A written record for your fire audit file

Red flags to avoid

Very cheap refilling is often done by topping up old powder without opening the cylinder, or by using non-standard powder. Ask the vendor which agent they use, whether they hydro-test, and whether they give replacement units during servicing.

Refilling vs AMC

If you have more than 10 to 15 extinguishers, an Annual Maintenance Contract usually works out cheaper and more reliable than calling a vendor each time. An AMC covers monthly or quarterly inspections, refilling on schedule, tagging and documentation for your fire NOC.
