Fire Protection for Server Rooms and Electrical Panels

Quick guide to electrical panel fire suppression: Electrical faults cause a large share of fires. How automatic aerosol and tube-based systems protect electrical panels, UPS and server rooms.

Electrical short circuits are one of the leading causes of fire in India. Many of these fires start inside electrical panels, UPS cabinets and server racks, often at night when no one is around. By the time smoke reaches a detector in the room, damage is already done.

Why panels and server rooms need special protection

  • Fires start inside closed cabinets, hidden from view
  • Water and powder damage sensitive electronics
  • Downtime can cost more than the equipment itself
  • Many panels are in unmanned rooms

Option 1: Clean agent extinguishers

A basic but important step. CO2 or clean agent portable extinguishers near every panel and server room let trained staff respond quickly. They leave no residue and are safe on electrical fires.

Option 2: Tube-based automatic systems

A pressurised, heat-sensitive tube runs inside the panel. When a fire starts, the tube bursts at the hottest point and discharges agent directly onto the fire. No electricity is needed, and it works 24x7.

Best for: electrical panels, MCCs, DG control panels, CNC machines and battery cabinets.

Option 3: Aerosol suppression

Compact generators release a fine aerosol that interrupts the chemical reaction of the fire. They need no pipe network, making them simple to install in panels, cable rooms and small server rooms.

Best for: electrical rooms, cable galleries, UPS rooms, small data rooms.

Option 4: Gas suppression for larger server rooms

Larger data centres use clean agent flooding systems with a pipe network, cylinders and a control panel, designed by specialists.

Early detection

Pair any suppression system with good detection. Aspirating smoke detection samples air continuously and can warn of overheating long before visible smoke.

Maintenance

Automatic systems need periodic checks of pressure, tubes, generators and control wiring. Add them to your fire safety AMC so they are never forgotten.
