Fire Extinguisher Price in India (2026): A Complete Buyer's Guide

Updated: November 2026 3 min readBy the Vinsafe fire safety team

In short: What does a fire extinguisher cost in India in 2026? Indicative prices for ABC, CO2 and clean agent extinguishers, plus what really drives the price.

Searching for a fire extinguisher price online gives you numbers from Rs. 500 to Rs. 15,000 for what looks like the same red cylinder. The difference comes down to type, capacity, certification and after-sales service. This guide explains what you should expect to pay and how to avoid buying something that fails when you need it. If you are buying for offices, plants or several sites, bulk pricing and an AMC usually bring the cost per unit down.

Indicative price ranges (2026)

Prices below are indicative market ranges for BIS-certified (ISI-marked) extinguishers in Delhi NCR. They vary by brand, quantity and installation.

  • ABC dry powder, 2 kg: Rs. 900 to Rs. 1,800
  • ABC dry powder, 4 kg: Rs. 1,400 to Rs. 2,800
  • ABC dry powder, 6 kg: Rs. 1,800 to Rs. 3,500
  • ABC dry powder, 9 kg: Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 4,500
  • CO2, 2 kg: Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 6,000
  • CO2, 4.5 kg: Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 10,000
  • Clean agent, 2 kg: Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 7,000
  • Kitchen (K-type / wet chemical), 2 to 6 litres: Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 8,000

What drives the price

Type of agent. ABC powder is the cheapest and most versatile. CO2 needs a heavy high-pressure cylinder, so it costs more. Clean agent leaves no residue, which makes it ideal for server rooms and electronics, and it is the most expensive per kg.

Capacity. Bigger is not always better. A 9 kg unit is heavy for many staff members to handle. For offices, 4 kg and 6 kg ABC units are usually the practical choice.

Certification. Since February 2024, portable and wheeled fire extinguishers sold in India must carry the BIS Standard Mark under the Fire Extinguishers (Quality Control) Order, 2023. A very cheap unit without the ISI mark is not a bargain; it is illegal to sell and may not work.

Installation and service. A good supplier includes wall brackets, signage, installation and the first inspection tag. The cheapest online listing usually includes none of these.

The hidden cost: maintenance

The purchase price is only the start. Extinguishers need monthly visual checks, yearly maintenance and periodic hydraulic pressure testing under IS 2190. Refilling after use or after the agent expires is a recurring cost. This is why many businesses move to an Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC), which bundles all of it into one predictable fee.

Buying checklist

  • ISI mark and BIS licence number printed on the cylinder
  • Manufacturing date clearly marked (older stock means a shorter service life)
  • Pressure gauge in the green zone at delivery
  • Correct type for the risk (see our guide on types of fire extinguishers)
  • Supplier who can refill, test and service locally
